PCPS Burns Supper 2008 Continued

The Immortal Memory

We used the internet to research the life and works of Burns.

Then we wrote our own ‘Immortal Memory’ and read it out at the Burns Supper.

We also read the poem ‘My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose’ by Burns:

O, my luve's like a red, red rose,
That's newly sprung in June.
O, my luve's like the melodie,
That's sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonie lass,
So deep in luve am I,
And I will luve thee still, my Dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry.

A Toast Tae The Lassies

We wrote a toast and read it out at the supper...

The lassies wrote their reply and read it out!

Auld Lang Syne

We used the internet to find out about this world famous Burns song.

We printed out the words for everyone to sing:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days o' auld lang syne.

And for auld lang syne, my jo,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne,

And there's a hand, my trusty fiere!
And gie's a hand o' thine!
And we'll tak a right guid willy waught,
For auld lang syne.

We found an MP3 file for ‘Auld Lang Syne’ on the internet and downloaded it for everyone to sing along with. It was a ‘country’ version!

We explained to everyone how to cross their arms properly, when singing the song at the end of the supper.

Learning Poetry

We learned Scots poems and practised reading them in the Scots dialect!

We chose from:

'A Riddle' by William Souter

'Snailie' by Sheena Blackhall

'Sair Teeth' by Ellie MacDonald

'To A Mouse' by Robert Burns

We then recorded them onto a computer using ‘Audacity’ recording software.

We then turned them into MP3 files and put them on our website...see below at the bottom of this page!
