Eco-Schools Green Flag Award

Argyll and Bute Council received notification and congratulations from Eco Schools Scotland for the achievements of Port Charlotte Primary School recently. The school became the 800th school in Scotland to be awarded the prestigious Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.

Kate Campbell, Eco Schools Scotland Manager said in her notification to the school: “This is a fantastic achievement for the school, and we’re delighted to have reached such an important milestone for the Eco-Schools programme in Scotland.”

Headteacher Nick Trussler added: “We are overjoyed to have won the award and are pleased to share this great milestone with Eco Schools Scotland. We are keen to develop our efforts further in the future towards our second Green Flag”.

“I’d like to thank pupils, parents, staff and friends of the school for their continued support and commitment to making Port Charlotte a green environment in which to live, work and learn.”

Eco-Schools is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is an environmental management tool, learning resource and recognised award scheme. The Green Flag Award is the highest award offered by Eco Schools Scotland and schools must work towards meeting set criteria in order to be eligible for the award. Eco-Schools Assessor, Mrs. P Love, visited the Port Charlotte Primary School in May to find out about their eco-projects. She said, in her report to the school, “I was particularly impressed by how thoroughly you have managed to integrate many facets of the Eco-Schools Programme into the good work already going on in class.”
