Primary 4-7 End of Term Production

Port Charlotte Shooters FC Win the League!

Audiences thoroughly enjoyed the performance of “Friendly Matches—A Play of Two Halves”.

Performed by Primary 4-5-6-7, the play told the story of the Port Charlotte Shooters football team and their attempt at winning the Argyll Primary Schools League under the leadership of their coach, Mr. Bloor.

Getting off to a poor start, the Shooters struggled against sides like the Port Ellen Pirates and Bowmore Bandits. An improvement in their fortunes saw a better performance against Keills Kickers.

Joined by new recruits Charlotte and Jonathan (“The Green Machine”) and Dixie, the Shooters were able to win their first game when they defeated Bridgend Bruisers.

For the rest of the season, the Shooters were able to put a good run together (thirteen wins on the trot - much to Mr. Bloor’s surprise!) and met the Betsy Street Booters for the end of season showdown and championship decider.

After an outrageous tackle by the Booters’ captain, Becca Booter, on Shooters’ star player Charlotte Green, the Shooters’ star player was injured and substituted.  Initial worries were that it was a metatarsal injury, but it later transpired it was only a bruised big toe!

The full time score was a 0-0. As luck would have it, the match was to be decided on penalties! After an excellent performance by Billy ‘the cat’ Edwards in the Shooters’ goal, it was left up to ‘Super Sub’ Vinnie (who had not played a game all season) to come off the bench and score the winning penalty. He calmly slotted the ball past McHarrie in the Booters’ goal (with some use of gamesmanship involving a rat) and scored the winner for Port Charlotte. The moment will be replayed over and over (in slow motion and with “Chariots of Fire” playing in the background) in the memories of all their fans (Mrs. “Oranges” Brady, Brian’s Mum and Mr. “Where is that rat?” Brady—the long suffering school janitor).

The children would like to thank the following people for all their hard work and support:

·         Mrs. Harper for all her encouragement, directing skills and patience! Without you this play would NEVER have happened!! Thank you for your brilliant ideas.

·         Mrs. Rennie for all her help with costumes, make up, waving Miss Levine’s flag and washing the Shooters’ kit!

·         Mrs. MacPherson for all her ideas and encouragement for songs and stage direction.

·         Mr. Findlay for helping us attach our backdrops and adding that ‘professional touch’.

·         “Fairy” Godmother Eleanor Merrideth for helping us with our scenery and stage designs. You certainly created a theatrical atmosphere and made all our dreams come true!

·         Bowmore Primary School for the loan of their stage lights.

Although it had been a lot of hard work, this production was very rewarding for our pupils. They impressed us all with their skilled acting, singing and dancing. Truly confident individuals!

Remember, as Bingo Boot would say:  “Keep holding on to your dreams…”

One question still remains: Will Jonathan Green play for Scotland?
