FLAT STANLEY PAYS A FLYING

VISIT TO PRIMARY 1-2

We had an unexpected visitor who arrived on Islay in the second last week of this term.

The visitor was ‘Flat Stanley’ who was sent by Joseph Dawson, who attends Whitley Lodge First School in North Tyneside (a school that Mrs Stuart worked in many years ago).

Flat Stanley had a great week with us. We showed him some of our favourite parts of the school. He enjoyed getting his photograph taken with our new pocket video camera. After that, we wrote letters to Joseph telling him all about Flat Stanley’s adventures. We were sad to see Flat Stanley go but when we parcelled him back up we gave him some tablet to share with his class!

AAH! THAT’S HOW TO BUILD IT...

On Thursday 26th of March, P1-2 went on a trip to Islay High School.

The children have been learning about houses and homes and were keen to know about the key construction processes and materials used when building a house...

We had a look at  the new art block and met the builder, Mr. Fraser. Our job was to interview him and ask him questions which we had carefully thought about. We told him that we needed lots of information as we would be writing a job description for a builder.

Mr. Fraser told us how he built the art block with the help of others, including plumbers and electricians. He told us about the tools he uses, what his duties are and what makes a good builder.

We then visited Mr. Smith and students in the technical workshop. They were making Play Station cabinets and storage units.

Mr. Campbell was next door in the Construction workshop and the students were making bird feeders and picnic benches. The students told us all about the tools they used and what materials they were using.

We had a great day and learnt a lot about building houses and furniture.

HAVING HER CAKE AND SELLING IT!

Lily Ann Doyle has been incredibly busy raising money for Comic Relief. She had the very enterprising idea of selling teas, coffees, cakes and biscuits at a recent school book fair.

The Scholastic Book Fair was organised by Port Charlotte Primary’s PTA on Thursday 26th February.

Lily Ann had been very busy previously, making chocolate cake (using her granny’s famous recipe), muffins, scones, iced sponge etc to sell to hungry customers.

Lily Ann would like to say a big thank you to her mum, her granny, Aunty Wendy, Nancy and Kiera for all their help. She would also like to say thank you to everyone who came along and bought some cakes and helped her to raise £100 for Comic Relief. A fantastic effort!!
