SCHOOL COUNCIL VOTES TO IMPROVE PLAYGROUND ACTIVITIES

On 4th of October 2007, we had a School Council meeting.

We had asked the School Fund Committee for a grant to buy new games for the playground. Mr Trussler told us that we had £100 from the eco -schools fund and £100 from the School Fund to spend on outdoor games.

Everyone got a chance to select toys for the playground. Mr Trussler handed out games catalogues to each clan. We talked about what we thought the best games were, and what we thought would be best to play with. We wanted toys that would last for a long time and not get broken or lost. We looked carefully at the catalogues and circled our favourite thing from each page. Then Mr Trussler looked at the pages and ordered the most popular things.

A couple of weeks later the games arrived. We put them into three bags. A different bag is put out each day. This means that we don’t get tired of the games because each day there is something different to play with.

Play times are much more fun and everyone is keeping active, fit and healthy!

Hannah said ‘I enjoy the swing ball thingies because they are fun to play with.’

Rosie said ‘The games are fun and I enjoy them.’

ROYAL NAVY BERTHS AT PORT CHARLOTTE

On Monday 12th November 2007, six members of the Navy crew and the captain from the submarine HMS Vanguard, visited Port Charlotte Primary School .

The Captain talked to the whole school about the submarine, and what it was like to live and work underwater for up to three months at a time.

The crew can be away from home for1 up to 90 days at a time, and in some cases, they are away for Christmas time (that must be horrible). Some of the jobs that they do are weapons engineer, supply manager (don’t run out of tea bags!), control technician and captain.

If there was fire aboard, the crew have to put it out as quickly as possible themselves. They said that they had 5 chefs on board the submarine. The captain said that his favourite desert was ‘black on black’ (chocolate sponge with chocolate sauce).

They told us that the submarine had a nuclear reactor on board which means they can go round the world 7 times before they have to refuel.

We played football against them at break and we won 5-3. Connagh scored 4 goals and Gregor scored 1.

The whole team played really well, and we look forward to the Navy coming back to play against us again!
